The questions everyone asks us
Using an eSIM in Indonesia
An Indonesia eSIM gets you online as you land in Bali or Jakarta, ready for Grab, Gojek and maps, without the airport SIM queue. Buy and install it before you fly, then switch it on when you arrive.
A note on Indonesia's IMEI system
Indonesia has an IMEI registration system for phones brought in from abroad. Foreign phones using international roaming do not normally need to be registered, while visitors using a local Indonesian SIM may need the operator to register the device for temporary access. How this applies to your eSIM depends on the plan, so check the individual plan details if you are unsure.
Bali and the islands
Coverage is strong across the Bali tourist areas such as Canggu, Ubud, Seminyak and Uluwatu, and the main cities. It is more variable on the smaller and remote islands, including the Gilis, Nusa Penida and parts of Lombok and Komodo, so download offline maps before island day trips and dive excursions.
How much data
For a week in Bali using maps, Grab, Gojek, messaging and normal photo sharing, around 5–10GB is a sensible starting point. For two weeks, around 10–20GB gives more room, while frequent streaming or hotspot use can make 20GB or an unlimited plan a better fit.
Travel eSIM FAQs
Top-up availability depends on the plan. Some eSIMs can be topped up, including certain unlimited plans, while others may require a new plan once the current one ends or runs out. Check the individual plan details for your selected option.
