For a week in Vietnam using maps, Grab, messaging and normal photo sharing, around 5–10GB is a sensible starting point. For two weeks, around 10–20GB gives more room, while frequent streaming or hotspot use can make 20GB or an unlimited plan a better fit.

Will I have signal on a Ha Long Bay cruise?

Near the shore and the ports, generally yes, but out on the water among the karsts, signal drops. Download offline maps and your cruise details before you board so the quiet stretches are covered.

Will it work up in Sapa and the northern mountains?

In the towns, mostly yes, but on the higher trekking trails and in remote valleys signal can disappear. Download offline maps before a trek and expect stretches with no coverage.

Do I need to set up a local SIM after I arrive in Vietnam?
